Ever since 2002, Alexei Țurcan has been part of one of the most important Romanian alternative-rock bands – Travka. In this time period he made himself known in the industry as a multi-instrumentalist, but as a producer and composer as well. He produced three Travka albums, Lucia’s latest album, the famous Fanfare Ciocârlia’s anniversary album and countless singles from both local and international artists.
In the past 4 years he created the orchestra arrangements for the musicians who accompanied on stage bands such as Golan, Akua Naru, Loredana, Robin and the Backstabbers, Zdob și Zdub, Byron, The Mono Jacks and others. For over 8 years he’s been a sound engineer, producer and composer for the UNDA Recording Studio in Bucharest.
In 2013 he started his own musical project, Tomma Alistar, which blends the electronic sound with acoustic elements placing it at the limit between dance-floor and soundtrack-like music.
He wrote the sountrack for Radu Ionescu’s film, ”Trouble in the dark”, ”Noaptea” (”The Night”) and the ”Caisa” documentary – both directed by Alexandru Mavrodineanu, ”Unripe Fruits”, which was directed by Valentin Hotea.
Among his most recent sound productions one must mention: ”Rovegan”, directed by Catinca Drăgănescu, ”Cartea Junglei” / ”The Jungle Book” and ”Zaraza”, directed by Răzvan Mazilu, ”Totul e relativ” / ”Everything is relative” and ”Scufița Roșie” / ”Red Riding Hood”, directed by Felix Alexa.
”50 de secunde” / ”50 seconds” (directed by Eugen Gyemant) is Alexei Țurcan’s most up-to-date collaboration with the National Theatre of Bucharest, after he wrote the soundtrack for ”O întâmplare ciudată cu un câine la miezul nopții” / ” The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and UFO, both directed by Bobi Pricop (NTB).
Alexei is currently working on the soundtracks of various theatre productions, an animation film and a cine-concert for the Gopo Awards ceremony.
